How to respond to those who say: America, love it or leave it

Michael Boldin's blog post called "The America Haters Strike Again" is one of the most eloquent I have ever read in response to those who think that patriotism is no more than blindly supporting our leaders.

Boldin's ideas echo my own: freedom of speech is meaningless if it only means speech that endorses current policy or current orthodoxy.

There is no democracy and there is no republic if we are not allowed to criticize our government.

Yet, there is a large faction of the public that will attack me, or Boldin, or Alex Jones, or George Noory, or any other citizen for being brazen enough to speak out minds, as the 1st Amendment says we can.

Patriotism is not orthodoxy.  I love this country as much as anyone, and that is why so much of what our leaders do sickens and disgusts me.

I will not bow to them and shut up.  My love for this country demands I speak, and at least attempt to right the wrongs that I see.

That, my friends, is true patriotism.

Read the post: its great.
